Community Support Resources in Hendersonville, NC
Henderson County has a strong network of nonprofits and public programs for anyone going through a rough patch, or anyone who wants to volunteer and give back once they’re settled. Here’s where to start, whether you need help or want to offer it.
Food & Emergency Assistance
The Community Food Pantry and Interfaith Assistance Ministry (IAM) are the two biggest players locally. IAM, at 310 Freeman Street, has provided crisis assistance since 1984 — food, clothing, utility and rent help, medication, and pet food for residents in financial crisis, open weekday mornings with limited afternoon hours. For food specifically, the MANNA FoodBank helpline (1-800-820-1109) can point you to the nearest pantry or distribution, and several area churches, including New Beginning Baptist and Hendersonville Seventh-Day Adventist, run their own weekly food distributions open to the public.
Senior Services
The Council on Aging for Henderson County, at 105 King Creek Boulevard, has served older adults locally for more than 50 years. Programs include Meals on Wheels for homebound seniors, a Congregate Dining program for adults 60 and up who want a hot meal and company, and information and referral services for seniors and their caregivers navigating benefits or long-term care.
211 & General Referrals
If you’re not sure where to start, dial 211. It’s a free, statewide referral line run by United Way of North Carolina that connects callers to housing, utility, healthcare, and food assistance across more than 18,000 local resources, including everything in Henderson County. United Way of Henderson County also runs its own local programs and can point you toward volunteer opportunities if you’re looking to get involved.
The Bottom Line
Whether you’re settling in and want to find your footing in the community, or you hit an unexpected setback, Henderson County’s nonprofit network is deep and well-organized. IAM and 211 are good first calls for almost any need, and the Council on Aging is the right starting point for anything related to older family members.
